You will learn the specific legal requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) [23], the National Construction Code (NCC), and Australian Standard AS 1428.1. The session focuses on practical design challenges, showing you how to maintain an aesthetic design while meeting strict rules for clear door openings, flush thresholds, and minimum handle clearances.
A major focus of the course is the physics of door operations, specifically how to keep opening and closing forces under the legal 20-Newton limit. By exploring high-performance sliding door tracks, lever handles, and low-friction acoustic seals, you will see how the right hardware prevents common on-site non-compliance issues.
